Gold is Akshay Kumar’s ninth Rs 100 crore film after Housefull 2, Housefull 3, Airlift, Rustom, Jolly LLB 2, Holiday, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Rowdy Rathore
Today, Akshay Kumar’s period sports drama Gold entered the Rs 100 crore club at the domestic market. Interestingly, the film has achieved one more milestone at the ticket windows, which will definitely make all Akshay Kumar’s fans smile. Apart from grossing Rs 131.20 crore (Rs 100.45 crore) in India, the film has also grossed Rs 20 crore in the international markets. Gold currently stands with the grand total of Rs 151.20 crore at the worldwide box office.
Gold is Akshay Kumar’s ninth Rs 100 crore film after Housefull 2, Housefull 3, Airlift, Rustom, Jolly LLB 2, Holiday, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha and Rowdy Rathore. Still, we say Gold has underperformed at the box office especially after getting a humongous opening of 25.25 crore on its first day. Talking about the film, it showcases the journey of India’s first Olympic gold win as a free nation
Gold is directed by Talaash helmer Reema Kagti and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment. It also stars Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and Sunny Kaushal in key roles. Apparently, Gold has faced a stiff competition from John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate, which dominated the Akshay Kumar starrer in the single screens and mass centres. Looking at the current scenario, we are expecting the film to end its theatrical run around Rs 110 crore. Anyway, do you think Akshay needs to take a break from the same genre of films?
