Love triangles are nothing new in Bollywood, but it’s the treatment that makes all the difference. And Anurag Kashyap has proved it with his recently released film Manmarziyaan. The filmmaker, who is the poster boy of new wave cinema in Bollywood, has tried his hand at an out and out romantic drama for the first time, and the result is definitely not disappointing.
The film starring Abhishek Bachchan, Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal has got a thumbs up from critics and fans alike. After a slow start, the film is now making a steady growth with each passing day.
After earning Rs 14.33 crore on its opening weekend, Manmarziyaan has passed the Monday test. According to early estimates, the rom-com earned Rs 3.75 crore on its fourth day, thus taking the total to Rs 18.08 crore (approx).
Set in Amritsar, Manmarziyaan is a complicated love triangle. It tells the story of the unapologetic and whimsical Rumi (Taapsee Pannu) who is passionately in love with Vicky (Vicky Kaushal). However, Vicky is commitment-phobic and after growing tired of waiting for him, Rumi eventually decides to marry Robbie (Abhishek Bachchan), who is smitten with her.
If the film has got two powerhouses of talent – Vicky and Taapsee together on the big screen, it is also the comeback film of Abhishek Bachchan. He was last seen in Sajid-Farhad’s Housefull 3, which hit the theatres in 2016.
